Earth's Workshop

Updated: Feb 21, 2020

The goal of the Earth’s Workshop is simple: to increase the quantity, quality, and benefits of outdoor experiences for children. Learning takes place in nature that doesn't otherwise occur indoors. It is important, then, that outdoor environments be as richly and thoughtfully equipped as indoor ones.

Earth’s Workshop is a collaborative outdoor classroom program that encourages K-12 students to interact with learning opportunities, and each other, in nature. Battle high school students are currently working in cooperation with the City of Columbia, Missouri Department of Conservation, and Columbia Public Schools to create a dedicated 40 acre outdoor classroom in the city park space.

In the outdoor classroom students will experience the following:

- Identify butterfly species

- Identify invasive species

- Nature tours

- Build and learn about natural clocks

- Learn about edible and very much non-edible plants

- Learn how to recycle cardboard

- and so much more!
